In Australia, online casinos are subject to strict regulations. The Interactive Gambling Act 2001 (IGA) prohibits the provision of online casino services to Australian residents. This means that online casino operators cannot offer real-money gambling services to Australians, and Australians are not allowed to play at online casinos that are based in Australia. However, it is not illegal for Australians to play at offshore online casinos (1).

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) is responsible for enforcing the IGA. The ACMA has the power to block access to unlicensed online gambling sites, including online casinos. In addition, the ACMA can issue penalties to online casino operators who breach the IGA. Despite these measures, some offshore online casinos continue to target Australian residents (2).
