The country's regulatory framework does not provide any licensing mechanisms for online gambling operators, making it illegal for both operators to offer services and for residents to participate in online casino gambling.
Bahrain's Central Bank and other financial regulatory bodies actively monitor and restrict financial transactions related to gambling activities. The government has implemented measures to block access to international gambling websites and prevent local financial institutions from processing payments to offshore gambling operators (2). These restrictions extend to all forms of online betting, including sports betting, poker, and traditional casino games, reflecting the country's commitment to maintaining its Islamic values in the digital age.
"The Kingdom of Bahrain prohibits all forms of gambling and betting activities, whether conducted online or offline, in accordance with Islamic principles and national legislation governing such activities" (1)
Despite these restrictions, some Bahraini residents may still attempt to access international online casinos through virtual private networks (VPNs) or other circumvention methods. However, such activities remain illegal under Bahraini law and can result in significant legal consequences, including fines and potential imprisonment. The government continues to strengthen its enforcement mechanisms and works with international partners to combat illegal gambling activities, ensuring that its prohibition remains effective in the digital landscape.
